About me

I have over 23 years experience of teaching both A level and GCSE Sociology in schools and colleges in London and the South East and have been Head of Department for 18 of those years. I am currently Head of Sociology in a large 6th Form College along with working as an A level Sociology examiner for AQA with 8 years experience of examining. I have also built up a great deal of experience over the years tutoring on a one to one or small group basis and have run a number of successful revision courses. My results have been consistently excellent, particularly at A level, where my students generally achieve an average of 1 grade higher than their target as a group and individual students have achieved up to 3 grades higher than their targets. Away from teaching I am married to Vicki who works for a children`s mental health charity and dad to Sam 11 and Ruby 8. I enjoy cricket, politics, reading (often sociology books!) and the cinema. I have a calm and patient approach to my teaching and tutoring and use humour to make the sessions enjoyable and to build confidence and motivation where it is needed. As an experienced examiner I have a thorough knowledge of the skills required in answering the different types of exam question and how to develop these skills in my students.

I am available evenings and at certain times over the weekends by arrangement.
