I am a friendly 23 year old, who has just completed the GDL law conversion, I have a 2:1 BA in History from Newcastle. I studied Maths History and Art at A-Level. I am patient, organised and enjoy getting students the results that they deserve.
I was a teaching assistant for Years 8 to 11 in History. This involved introductory lessons and helping children with their grammar. My main role was, correcting students` work and communicating the substance of the lesson to students who had a weaker understanding of English, while balancing the need to maintain the attention of those more able. Many of the students were refugees and therefore, as their second language, English was more difficult. To ensure good behaviour in class I often had to solve problems to unexpected situations in an innovative way. Initially I found this difficult as the children were testing me to see how much they could get away with, however, being consistent in my approach to the bad behaviour gave the students structure and boundaries. I was awarded a scholarship to work at an orphanage in Tanzania. I taught English and Computer Skills to those who had ranging understandings of the subjects, some had never seen a computer before, others were competent on Excel. I had to manage my time and the differing abilities in the class to ensure all the students were included. I needed to be able to change the lesson plan at a moments notice if the standard of the lesson was not right for the class. I have also volunteered at Riding for the Disabled and have experience working with special needs children.
